This year, our school had swimming lessons in the Ngaruawahia Town Pool, then we finished them by having our Swimming Sports Day.
We had to do freestyle, backstroke and heaps of other fun activities. I was really nervous and impatient. I didn't know what to do at first then I knew what was happening. I had to jump in the freezing cold water with the rest of the eight year old girls, then Mr K said, “On your marks, get set.” He blew his whistle as hard as he could.
Off we swam, kicking as hard as we could, to the end of the pool, and I won the breaststroke race! Now it was time for the one width breaststroke. “7 year old boys, on your marks, get set.” Mr K blew his whistle really hard then they pushed off like rockets. There was a lot of splashing. They finally reached the end of the pool and it was Hunter who won the race. Hooray! Everyone was cheering.
I was really proud of myself. “Yahoo,” I thought.
